If WWE brought Mickie James back for one last feud against Trish Stratus, it would be a huge moment for professional wrestling.

Trish Stratus’s active return to WWE has been a major surprise for 2023. At 47 years of age, the multiple-time champion and Hall of Famer is showing that she still has a lot to give the company. Along the way, she’s helped build up new stars such as Zoey Stark and is in a central storyline with Becky Lynch. If WWE wants to truly give her one last run it should come with some fan service that includes running things back with Mickie James.

Trish Stratus and Mickie James had one of the most important runs during the early 2000s. James played an excellent character as a fan that became obsessed with Stratus. Nearly 20 years later, some will argue that it is James that has contributed more to professional wrestling throughout her career. Regardless of where you may fall on that debate, it’s clear that Stratus and James’s careers will forever be linked. Bringing them back together for one last major angle would be a huge deal for all of wrestling.

Of course, there’s the question: Isn’t James a part of the Impact Wrestling roster? Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has stated that James is still a free agent, even though she continues to collaborate with the company. She’s cleared to return after an injury forced her to vacate the Impact Knockouts Championship. While it’s expected she will return to Impact soon, it would be interesting to see if WWE found a way to work with her as a free agent for a final storyline with Stratus.

WWE’s creative and personnel policies did see some change while Vince McMahon was pushed out of the company. There are multiple reports that things have changed since his return, but there are still clear improvements with creative booking across the promotion’s content. The women’s divisions have seen some improvements – including Stratus and Lynch being involved in an important, non-title feud. Factoring James into that equation would continue that improvement.

Lynch continues to face two-on-one situations with Stratus and Stark standing side-by-side. If Lynch looked to James to be her second, that would even things up and spark a new layer of fan interest. Look back to the surprise inclusion of James in the 2022 Royal Rumble. She didn’t get a big moment in the match, mostly due to the horrible booking of the match, but her announcement was a shocking surprise to many familiar with WWE’s product.

Aligning her with Lynch would make sense for the story and create a scenario where Stratus and James could have one bigger match on a PLE at a time when women’s wrestling is completely different than it was during their generation. Look at all the things James has achieved throughout her career and in women’s wrestling. Giving her that moment to put on a great match with Stratus today would be highly anticipated and praised by fans, wrestlers, and media members alike.

Mickie James is an icon in professional wrestling that deserves her flowers for what she contributed to WWE. Giving her the space to return to Becky Lynch’s side against Trish Stratus and Zoey Stark would be the type of moment that would bring their careers to a complete circle.
