The Wyatt Sicks Need a WarGames Match with The Final Testament
By Ryan Page
From the initial peak of their return to now, the Wyatt Sicks have maintained an enigmatic aura. Some of that, though, has been due to a lack of exposure. The Wyatt Sicks need a WarGames match, featured at Survivor Series, to kick off the next phase of their return. They are engaged in a factional feud with The Miz and Final Testament. That rivalry ensures they have the participants to fill the match. More importantly, though, a long spell away from the screen with no PLE matches since returning has diminished their sense of impending danger. The mystery remains, but not the darkness. WarGames offers them a great chance to remedy that issue without taking away from the women's division, which is also building toward a factional face-off.
They are a protected act on "Monday Night Raw" still
Even with their conspicuous absence, Wyatt Sicks has remained relatively protected on TV. That typically means they have something big planned for the act. Uncle Howdy et al. have yet to have any big stage moments. Whatever WWE has planned for the group, they need to build up some signature wins and do so quickly. Even with a strong TV record, the PLE is a crucial part of building up talent. Winning at a Big Five event is worth even more, further erasing the damage their absence may have caused.
The Final Testament and The Miz have been featured far more prominently. Karrion Kross, especially, has made a remarkable turnaround in his fortune on WWE programming. The group's great work across multiple stories has earned it a featured match as well. The titular match would fit that bill nicely. Between the two teams, it makes an incredible amount of sense to kick off the show with a WarGames match featuring the teams and the women who accompany them in some capacity.
The Wyatt Sicks need a WarGames match for their violent gimmick
The Sicks made a massive impact with the way they debuted extra violently. They attacked everyone backstage, indiscriminate of their past deeds or role in WWE. They arrived as vengence in the WWE. Then they went into a feud that they soundly won. Since that point, the violence has been tempered considerably. They jumped into the deep and emotional story of Bo Dallas and his family, both blood and found. It has been vital to flesh out the story, but the violence was very much a selling point that WWE needs to reintegrate into the presentation.
WarGames is a chaotic match with weapons, cages, and a generally "hardcore" setting. WWE undoubtedly wants that vibe for both teams in this match. At some point, Uncle Howdy will need to get scarier in the Bray Wyatt sense of the word. The character's cinematic aspect will eventually take center stage. For now, the cage offers a happy medium between the Wyatt-centric matches that have, for the most part, carried the character and a standard wrestling match.
The new women's division can better revive an old tradition
One of the more persistent rumors around war games is that it will be the return of the old elimination tag team match. Typically, the Survivor Series event was built around the men's elimination match, but the WarGames stipulation has surpassed and now wholly replaced it as the annual tradition. Now, a man's and a woman's match in the cage are the top two bouts of the show. The men's cage match is set, but the women's teams have just come together.
Wyatt Sicks and Final Testament are the far more established teams for one. Additionally, the organized structure of the traditional tag match doesn't mesh as well with the characters involved in that feud, and the talents wouldn't get as much out of the conventional roles and "cliches" of that iconic match. The women of Raw and Smackdown facing off with one another would be a much better fit for that match. They would be far more likely to fight within the rules, benefit from the layout of that style of match, and have the appropriate amount of heat for the format. With it being the only match of its kind, it could still be considered a co-main event, too, so the women will have an opportunity to entertain the fans that they so often don't receive in the short PLE era.
Time is a factor in why the Wyatt Sicks need a WarGames match
The way that WWE is heading, WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, is going to be the most expensive and sought-after show in all of wrestling. It will almost certainly have every match conceivable, with four days of content in Las Vegas raking in an enormous amount of money. When Uncle Howdy returned, it seemed a surefire thing he would appear on that show. Now, with the focus on his family waning, their inclusion is in doubt. In order to pay off the enormous amount of good faith and emotion behind the tribute character, that mania moment is a must-have. The WrestleMania season is right around the corner, and whoever isn't in a strong story by year's end will likely be on the outside looking in. WarGames can help to place more focus on Howdy to ensure he isn't left in the back at Allegiant Stadium.
