Corey Graves Should Replace Jerry Lawler on WWE SmackDown

In light of the Jerry Lawler arrest and suspension, could this now mean a golden opportunity for Corey Graves on Smackdown?

Earlier Friday, it was revealed that Jerry Lawler had been arrested in his home in Memphis TN, due to a domestic issue with his fiancee. This news has led to the indefinite suspension of Lawler, with no timetable set for his return.

This leaves a big void in the SmackDown announce team as Lawler was the Heel color commentator. He sat alongside Byron Saxton who was the face color commentator, and Mauro Ranallo, who handled the play-by-play.

As of now, Saxton does double duty as he works on both RAW and SmackDown. However, when the brands split, the belief is that the shows will have their own unique commentary teams.

With Lawler gone for the immediate future, and Saxton most likely heading to RAW, Smackdown only has Mauro Ranallo. With everything going on, this now sets up a golden opportunity for Corey Graves.

Since having to retire from wrestling last year due to multiple concussions, Graves has been the color commentator for NXT. Graves also has been doing the RAW and pay-per-view pre-shows as an analyst.

With everything going on, now is the perfect time for Graves to be added to the SmackDown commentating team. He has shown over the last year that he is fully capable and ready to be a commentator on one of the big shows. There would be a fit for the blue brand, as the former NXT Tag Team Champion would be able to bring a new and current voice to the show. As legendary as Jerry Lawler is, his time has come and gone, and he is becoming dated in his commentary style.

Graves also has recent experience in the ring and can give a current analysis on some of the guys in the ring as he may have worked with them. Graves is witty and smart, and his style could work well with Ranallo.

Working with an experienced pro like Mauro, would help Graves develop his style and allow to learn from one of the greats. Together the duo could become one of the best commentating teams we have seen in awhile.
