Brie Bella’s Heel Turn – Does it Make Any Sense? Could it Culminate at WrestleMania?

WWE turned Brie Bella heel at Survivor Series for reasons we still don’t know and likely will never know if we don’t tune into Total Divas.

More from WrestleMania

Brie Bella had a large push throughout this past summer, as she was put into a program with Stephanie McMahon. Their feud culminated at SummerSlam, only for Brie’s sister Nikki, who suffered through handicap matches because Brie quit WWE, to turn on her during the match. This has led to a now three-plus month feud that doesn’t feel as prominent as it once was.

Brie and Nikki finally had their one-on-one at the Hell in a Cell PPV in October. They decided on a stipulation that made the loser of it the winner’s personal assistant for thirty days. Brie would end up losing this match and would suffer the wrath of her sister for nearly an entire month.

Why nearly a month? Well, at the Survivor Series PPV, Brie accompanied Nikki to the ring to face AJ Lee for the Divas Championship, like she had done for the month of November. She had the same, miserable look on her face that she’s portrayed while being her sister’s assistant. Then, suddenly, we see Brie hop onto the apron, lure AJ over, and kiss her (AJ did this to Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 28 and it cost him the match). Nikki would hit the Rack Attack and pin her for the victory.

While this all was happening, Brie’s face changed to a gigantic smile. She seemed happy to do something for her evil sister, just days before her time as Nikki’s personal assistant would be over. It didn’t make sense about why Brie would do this, so we expected an answer on Raw the next night.

It’s been two Monday Night Raws and one SmackDown episode and so far, we still haven’t found out a reason why Brie turned heel. It seems like it’s going to stay that way too.

There were incremental moments of tension between Brie and Nikki, which means a face turn is probably coming for Brie-again. With WWE already advancing towards that way, it doesn’t seem like they plan on unveiling her motivation for costing AJ Lee the Divas Championship and being happy about it. It’s really hurting this storyline and leaving fans confused.

If you want to be a little more disappointed by this; it wouldn’t be a surprise if this is all for Total Divas.

WWE wants to build storylines for the E! Network show by having matches on Raw and SmackDown mean something for it, even though the show airs three months after its taped. Judging from how WWE has handled the Bellas, it seems like they’re going to make a Brie vs. Nikki rivalry on Total Divas for the next part of season three and possibly show the reason for Brie turning heel during the show. If that’s the avenue that WWE takes this, then they really failed the fans who watch their weekly product.

The overall feud seems like it could drag into season four, as it seems like it will go through TLC and make it to Royal Rumble, which will be well over five months by then. It wouldn’t be a surprise if this ended at WrestleMania 31 either, to give the finale of this feud a grand ending for Total Divas. If this does last to WWE’s biggest PPV, fans will be beyond drained by the Bella twins.

WWE is making a big mistake with how they’re handling Brie Bella’s character. If they’re going to continue to hide the reason she turned heel, they’re going to make fans continue to lose interest in the Divas division.
