Mark Henry has been one of WWE’s most underrated assets for a long time now. He’s an enormous man who has enough athleticism to make him fairly enjoyable to watch, and his size makes it seem like anyone that beats him just accomplished an impressive feat. Alas, Henry’s time is coming to an end, as he told philly.com he will be looking to retire sometime after WrestleMania 32.
Whether or not Henry is planning to have one last big match remains to be seen, but he certainly deserves it. He’s been with WWE for nearly 20 years, and he is one of the few guys who, at least in my opinion, never really went stale as a character. From Sexual Chocolate to the Hall of Pain, Henry’s always been a solid attraction. And although he hasn’t been a meaningful storyline in some time, he deserves to go out on a high note.

WWE needs to start the farewell tour by having Mark Henry acknowledge that he will be retiring. As of this writing, WrestleMania is about 6 months away, so in about 3-4 months Henry should mention WrestleMania 32 will be his last ride. That will likely get the fans firmly behind him as they root for him to get one more victory as he rides off into the sunset. In the midst of this emotional announcement, Henry is interrupted by:
That’s right. Big Show. The irony is felt throughout the arena as the man who fans have begged to retire for months, comes out to challenge Mark Henry for his retirement match at WrestleMania. Big Show is as arrogant as ever, saying “Well Mark here we are. After all these years you’ve finally had enough. These fans keep begging me to retire, but it’s pretty obvious that I’m the only giant that can hang in WWE these days.”

It escalates from there. Henry mentions how Brock Lesnar annihilated Big Show at Madison Square Garden, and that Show needs to accept that his time is up too. Show gets irritated to the point where he says “Fine, I’ll prove to you I can still do this. If you beat me at WrestleMania 32, I’ll retire.”
That announcement is met with the loudest cheers Big Show has heard in a decade. Then the stage is set, the two giants who have had so much history together will face off at WrestleMania 32 one last time. Henry will retire after the match either way, and Big Show will retire if he loses.
The two go at it in a classic big guy vs big guy match. It’s slow, but it’s entertaining, especially since fans know this is the last time they’ll see these two against each other. Finally, Henry hits the World’s Strongest Slam on Big Show, leaving the announcers in awe and drawing cheers from the crowd. Henry pins Big Show. 1, 2, 3.
Henry’s music hits. The referee raises his arm. Henry reaches his hand out to a groggy Big Show, who, after a moment of hesitation, shakes his hand, leading to a manly hug between the two. They raise each other’s arms, and the two giants who have been with the company for decades go out on top together, after one last clash of the titans.
And there you have it. The fact is WWE doesn’t have much to with these two guys right now, so a duel retirement angle would make a lot of sense. Sure, this whole scenario would depend on Big Show agreeing to retire, but it makes sense given how much the fans have asked for it, and that Big Show is reaching that age.
It also seems like this could be the only way that Big Show gets the storybook ending that HE deserves. If he gets put into a retirement match with anyone else, fans are going to feel awkward when he loses. Retirements are typically met by the fans thanking the superstar and commending them on their career. But Big Show is past that point. Fans have gotten to the point where Big Show is so past his prime that they’re asking him to retire. So when he finally does…then what? Maybe chants of “It’s a-bout time! Clap clap clap-clap-clap”. No, that’s not what he deserves. While he may have overstayed his welcome, Show has still done a ton for the business and he deserves a proper sendoff. It seems like a duel sendoff with Mark Henry be the only way to make sure that happens.
