Should Kevin Owens Have a WWE WrestleMania 32 Match?

Kevin Owens doesn’t seem to be getting the spot on the card that he really deserves.

Kevin Owens apparently asked if he could face The Undertaker at WrestleMania, and his request fell on deaf ears. Hey, Vince McMahon, why would you want one of your best performers to face one of the only legends that you can really call upon? Apparently Taker is set to face an “unexpected” opponent at the biggest show of the year, and that leaves Mr. Owens without a solid match at ‘Mania. Who should he face?

KO has regularly been the best thing on WWE TV for the last year. He has an act that people love, or love to hate, and he’s the perfect guy to throw in with any number of baby faces. Running up to the Royal Rumble he was battling and battering Dean Ambrose. This was all for the Intercontinental Championship and all to rave reviews. Then Ambrose was one of the final two men in the Rumble and was thrown into the main event at Fastlane for the No. 1 Contendership to the WWE title held by Triple H. The Ambrose vs. Owens feud seems to have been totally forgotten about while Dean has been pushed to the top of the card, with Owens thrown back in with Dolph Ziggler.

With ‘Mania under two months away we need a meaningful match for Owens to take part in, one where he could steal the show perhaps. At the Royal Rumble, e had a great interaction with AJ Styles, throwing out the new guy, as well as seeing his old nemesis Sami Zayn come into the match and eliminate him. Right there we have two matches that would tear the house down. The Zayn vs. Owens feud is destined to happen on the WWE main roster at some point down the road, but it needs a proper build up, not just a match thrown together because you don’t have anything for Owens to do. Anyhow, Sami has a match scheduled with Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT Dallas for “Mania weekend so there’s little chance of him appearing on the big show as well.

With Ambrose likely to lose the match at Fastlane he’ll be looking for an opponent at ‘Mania as well. Styles is tangled up with Chris Jericho at the moment, but will probably be looking for a WrestleMania match as well. Jericho could be in the hunt for an opponent as well. That’s four men looking for a match, with one of them holding a title. WrestleMania is usually home to a multi man ladder match for the IC title. Why not break the usual mould and book all four of them in a ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship?

Ambrose and Owens still have matters to settle. Jericho and Styles will still be locked in battle. This match would have the potential to steal the show, all four men need the stage to shine and WrestleMania is the perfect place for it to happen. A ladder match would offer them the chance to inflict some unique offence on each other, we saw how much carnage Owens and Ambrose caused at the Rumble and this ladder match could bring us some more of that carnage. Throwing in Styles and Jericho would bring about a match that would upstage anything else that WWE cares to book on the card.

The fact that Owens asked for the WrestleMania match with Undertaker shows you how confident he is in his abilities, not that we needed any more indication of that. The fact that his request was rejected tells you that maybe WWE doesn’t rate him at that level just yet. Owens should be at the top of the card, he should be battling for the position of number one heel in the company, a spot which he probably already can lay a claim to. If he’s not going to get booked in the main event picture, he needs to keep showing why he more than deserves to be there.

By the time that WrestleMania 33 rolls around in 2017 Kevin Owens should be wrestling for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. WrestleMania 32 should be the spot where he shows Vince McMahon just how good he is, and leaves him with no option but to accept his requests in the future.
