WWE WrestleMania 32: Saving Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn is Correct Call
Not doing the fan’s choice of Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 32 is a wise move.
The Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn feud has been going on for an eternity. It started when they were Kevin Steen and El Generico, respectively, in ROH. They had epic encounters in the ring and some great non-wrestling segments. All of it is must-watch content.
When Owens joined Zayn in NXT in Dec. 2014, the smart choice was made to immediately dive into the past of these two stars. KO attacked the Likable One during his NXT TakeOver: R Evolution title celebration to start the madness.

The feud would continue with Owens winning the NXT Championship off Zayn. They would have a rematch at NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable and thanks to Samoa Joe, the rivalry was given a “to be continued” since no one was definitively pinned or submitted.

Fast forward to Mar. 2016. Zayn and Owens are now both on the main roster and in the same program for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. The Prize Fighter is putting the belt on the line at WrestleMania in a 7-man ladder match.
Many have called for a singles match between Zayn and Owens at this year’s Show of Shows, and they won’t be getting it now. Contrary to public opinion, this is the right call.
While NXT and hardcore fans know who Sami Zayn is, there are still thousands of children and families watching WWE programming who don’t know much about him. Some don’t watch developmental or know about the history between these two rivals. Plus, Sami has only been on the main roster full-time for a few weeks.

Fans are slowly being taught about the history between these men. Commentary has teased it, and that’s all they have to do right now since seven people are involved in the Intercontinental Championship hunt. Focusing this on just Zayn and Owens is not the right call.
Once WrestleMania 32 concludes, though, expect them to go into a long program for the IC title. They could go through WWE Payback, WWE Extreme Rules and Money in the Bank before finding a way to end the latest chapter. After all, it is the “feud that never dies”.
By the time WrestleMania 33 comes up, that’s when you pull the trigger on doing this match. Main roster fans will be invested in these two Superstars by then and will have knowledge of their history. This bout would have a “finally, it’s here” feeling to it, as the anticipation would have lasted for about nine months since their 2016 feud concluded. They could then go to war in front of the Citrus Bowl crowd and put on a fantastic match that they were destined to have at a WrestleMania event.
