WWE WrestleMania 32: Why Sasha Banks Needs to Win

Entering her first WrestleMania, Sasha Banks needs to win the Divas Championship at the big event.

For the first time in years, the Women’s division finally has a match at WrestleMania worth watching. Since early 2015, WWE (specifically NXT) has made it a major emphasis to rebuild the Women’s division. After legendary Divas, Trish Stratus, Lita and Mickie James, left the company the competition in the Women’s division took a huge nose dive.

The division went from being competitive with matches being watchable, to the division being viewed as a laughable afterthought with no real interest in from both the fans and the creative. However, starting in NXT back in 2013, a Divas Revolution began. New Divas with wrestling backgrounds and a desire and determination to help dissolve the current trend in Women’s wrestling began.

Four women who have been nicknamed the “Four Horsewomen” have created a new trend in the world of wrestling. These women during their time in NXT caused for some of the best wrestling in years to transpire. Their matches caused such a following that two of them even main-evented an NXT TakeOver Special.

These four women are Charlotte, Beck Lynch, Sasha Banks, and Bayley. After all the success and admiration these girls have received over the last two year three of those women will now be competing for the Divas Championship at WrestleMania (Charlotte, Banks and Lynch). Going into this match, Charlotte has become the unbeatable champion.

After knocking off Nikki Bella in Sep., Charlotte has been on a complete tear in the Divas division. Being mentored by her father, the legendary Ric Flair, Charlotte has taken on a cheating-like mentality. She will do anything even if it’s breaking the rules to make sure she holds on to the championship.

However, despite getting the rub of being the top Diva in the company the fans still do not seem to be completely in love with Charlotte as the face of the division.

Although Charlotte recent heel turn has made her more entertaining and watchable, she is not who the fans want as the face of the Divas division. WWE has been looking for their next franchise Diva since both Trish Stratus and Lita left the company in 2006. They have tried with women like Michelle McCool, Kelly Kelly, Beth Phoenix and Melina. However, none of those Divas were able to capture the admiration and fan approval that both Lita and Trish had.

WWE finally has that Diva and her name is Sasha Banks, whether the company wants to admit it or not. WWE a lot of the time is their own worse enemy. They go by what they think is the right move, rather than listen to their fans (Roman Reigns as an example). WWE seems to be doing this with Charlotte. As good as the Nature Girl has become, she is not who the fans want. The WWE Universe has spoken and they want Sasha.

The reason for this is Sasha does something that none of the other Divas do—she carries herself as a star. Sasha has a swagger and attitude that oozes stardom. She knows she the best and she carries herself with it. Her “Boss” character is perfect for her and she truly carries herself as the “Boss” of the Divas Division.

Her pop back in Jan. at the Royal Rumble was by far the loudest pop a female has gotten in at least a decade. But it’s not just her charisma that has gotten her over, but the in-ring work is also very impressive. Sasha has by far been putting on some of the best matches in the company, not just in the division but in the company as a whole.

Her match with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn was probably the best women’s match in WWE since Stratus and Mickie James met at WrestleMania 22. Sasha gets it, and her ring psychology is incredible. The way Sasha goes after a body part, and her trash talking abilities while doing so is reminiscent of an old school heel.

However, even with Banks being more of a tweener now, she is still the most over Diva in the company. With all of this is her favor, she should be the one to leave WrestleMania as Divas Champion.

After all the hard work and the flurry of fantastic matches she has had over the last year, Sasha needs to be rewarded by winning the Divas Championship at WrestleMania. With this triple threat being built as the biggest match in years, WWE needs to capitalize on this by giving the belt to Sasha Banks, and hence let the era of “The Boss” begin.
