Brock Lesnar’s UFC 200 Win Helped His WWE Booking
By Carl Gac
Brock Lesnar won his fight at UFC 200 against Mark Hunt, and it can massively help his booking in WWE.
When it was announced that Brock Lesnar would be returning to the UFC octagon, to face Mark Hunt, many people thought it was a bold move by WWE to allow him to take the fight. Hunt is known a man who possesses a one punch knockout power that had seen him win his previous two fights in the first round.
If Hunt had walked into the fight and knocked Lesnar out inside the first few minutes, that could very easily have destroyed the aura around Lesnar. Lesnar is one of the few men that can come and go from WWE as he pleases, and whenever he is inside the WWE ring he brings a star power that not many other men can bring. If he had lost the fight at UFC 200, it would have been a devastating blow for his WWE career.

But he won, he won in pretty dominant fashion. The majority of the punches he threw hit their target and the end result was pretty inevitable.

Less than a week before the fight, WWE announced that Lesnar would face a returning Randy Orton at SummerSlam. SummerSlam was even plugged during the UFC 200 show, and UFC legend Chuck Lidell even introduced an advert for the WWE 2K17 video game, that Lesnar is the cover star of.
This was all massive for the two companies, UFC got a massive fight for their biggest show to date, WWE got some crossover publicity and Lesnar got his wish to fight inside the Octagon once again. This fight, Lesnar’s win, and the publicity for SummerSlam all strengthens Lesnar’s hand going forward with WWE.
To have Lesnar return to WWE tv, in the buildup to SummerSlam, and brag about the win against Hunt can be a massive seeing point for the match with Orton. The legend of Lesnar in WWE is that of a badass who dominates his opponents and throws them around at will, his domination of John Cena being a particular highlight in recent years.

Lesnar doesn’t need to wrestle anyone until he steps in the ring with Orton. With Paul Heyman at his side, they can use the win in UFC to build up the SummerSlam match into a massive war. Orton has one of the most talked about finishing moves in WWE, the RKO out of nowhere, that can be sold as the great equaliser in the match. Orton only needs to talk about the fact he can beat Lesnar with the RKO and we have a match that the entire WWE Universe is desperate to see.
It’d be ridiculous to think that WWE won’t talk about, and more than likely use footage of Lesnar’s fight with Hunt. They will play the highlights over and over again, making Lesnar seem like even more of a monster. If he had lost the fight it would have been a hard sell to make the match with Orton feel like anything more than a nothing match.

Without a doubt, WWE has benefitted from Brock Lesnar’s fight at UFC 200. WWE had everything to lose but have come up smelling of roses. Lesnar is in an even better bargaining position with both WWE and UFC going forward and the WWE has gained a whole host of new eyes on their product thanks to Lesnar being part of the whole thing. Lesnar walks out of UFC 200, and into the WWE Draft and SummerSlam, in possibly the strongest position he’s ever been in during his wrestling career.
