WWE WrestleMania 33: Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton Deserves Main Event Spot

Bray Wyatt defends his WWE Championship against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 33. Should it be the main event?

With just three weeks before WrestleMania 33, the main event of the biggest show in professional wrestling is still unclear. In recent years there wouldn’t be a problem as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match would close the show. However, the brand extension and introduction of the Universal Championship have made things a little more complicated.

In the Raw main event, we have Goldberg defending his Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar. On the SmackDown side of things, Bray Wyatt will defend his WWE Championship against Randy Orton. If there’s a choice to make between which of these matches should headline WrestleMania, it should be Orton vs. Wyatt.

Since the brand extension back in July 2016, the WWE Universe’s consensus is that SmackDown Live has been the A-show. It has been this way since it started, and just a better overall show than Raw. The brand should be awarded the main event for that reason alone.

Then there’s the issue with the Universal Championship match — Lesnar and Goldberg are both part timers. Frankly, them closing the show would be a slap in the face to the fans and, more importantly, Wyatt and Orton as they’re both doing some of their best work to date and are there every day.

Another thing to consider is Lesnar and Goldberg are the same two men got booed out of the building when they had their first match at WrestleMania XX. The match would also end fairly quick. While these two are special attractions, the main event of WrestleMania deserves a longer title match than the under two-minute matches the former WCW star has been in since his return.

To top it off, the build for the Viper vs. Eater of Worlds has been better. It started shortly after the brand split at Backlash, and has taken many turns since then.

More from WrestleMania

They started off as enemies feuding against each other. Since then, Orton had joined the Wyatt Family won the SmackDown Tag Team Titles alongside Wyatt himself. Once dropping those titles they began to tease tension within the group. Wyatt went on to win the WWE Championship just two weeks after Orton won the Royal Rumble.

Since then the group itself has dissolved and Orton turned on Wyatt by setting the Wyatt Compound on fire. There is also an element of surprise that may come into place as Erick Rowan of the Wyatt Family has been cleared for some time now and could be involved in the main event.
