Monday Night RAW – 3/15/10

Posted by: oldskoolwarrior

Last night on RAW, one of the greatest superstars in wrestling history came back to be the special guest host, and not so shockingly he continued in his ways by raising some hell!  Here’s what went down yesterday night:

Guest host and WWE Hall of Famer, Stone Cold Steve Austin came down to the ring to speak to the fans.  “Being back in this ring makes me want to open a can of whoop ass!”  A minute into the promo, he calls for two beers because he’s thirsty.  “With WrestleMania being two weeks away, I’ve had some classic matches… everyone shows up for business!  Bret Hart is one of the best I’ve ever been in the ring with.”  Austin then talks a little bit about Vince McMahon and his style when it comes to being in the ring.  The Rattlesnake then announces that he will oversee the contract signing for their match at WrestleMania, which will be tonight!

  • John Cena’s music hits and he comes to the ring.  While Cena is pandering to the crowd, Austin looks like he’s going to Stun him, but fakes him out giving him the “You can’t see me” gesture.  Cena laughs.
  • Austin leaves the ring, and Big Show’s music hits.  They approach each other with a glare.  Austin then turns, smiles, and waves at Big Show.  (Very random moment)

WrestleMania Rewind Match – WM XX
John Cena vs. Big Show
WINNER: Big Show via pin fall after hitting the KO Punch

  • Mid match, Batista came down to ring side and distracted Cena a couple of times leading to him losing focus on Show.

Evan Bourne vs. Sheamus
WINNER: No Contest

  • Sheamus looked to talk before the match, but attacked Bourne and the referee had no choice but to throw the match out.
  • After the beat down, Sheamus takes the mic, “Back when I was young in Ireland, there was one man who caught my attention in the WWE because he’d sell his mother down the river, and turn his back on his best friend… “The Game” Triple H… He beat the greats, and it’s brought him World Championships.  In one year, I ended careers and became WWE Champion.  You are the man I wanted to face at WrestleMania and in two weeks I get my chance!  This warrior bows to no king!”

Backstage: Stone Cold watching the monitor when approached by Shawn Michaels.  “I need to know, do you think I can beat The Undertaker?”

  • Austin responds, “Hell yeah, but I don’t think you’re going to…”
  • Shawn fires back, “After WrestleMania XIV, they thought my career was over.  I proved them wrong.  This year I do it again.  The streak is over!”
  • Interrupted by Chris Jericho, “Thanks for the match tonight Steve.  I get to embarrass Shawn one more time before Taker retires him at WrestleMania.”
  • HBK glares at Jericho, “Tonight, I’m going to send The Undertaker a message when I destroy you!”  Shawn walks away.
  • Jericho, a little frightened now, turns to Austin and tries to kiss his ass to get out of the match up.  Austin kicks him out of the office.

Non-Title Match
Kelly Kelly vs. Maryse
WINNER: Maryse via pin fall after hitting the French Kiss

  • After match, Maryse puts the boots to Kelly and Gail Kim & Eve Torres come to save her.
  • Out of nowhere come the Smackdown Divas, Michelle McCool & Layla to save Maryse and beat down the other Divas.  Vickie Guerrero meets them at the top of the ramp to congratulate them on a job well done.

Video Package: Superstars talk about the career versus the streak match at WrestleMania.

WrestleMania Rewind Match – WM XIX
Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho
WINNER: Shawn Michaels via count out after Jericho took a walk

  • After match, Edge jumped Jericho from behind, beating him all the way down to the ring side area.  Throws him into the ring and hits him with a Spear!

Video Package: Last week, Legacy defeated Randy Orton in a Handicap Match.  Announced for WrestleMania will be a Triple Threat match between all three former friends.

Backstage: Josh Matthews finds Orton and asks him if he’s going to lose focus on his match tonight with Triple H knowing that he’s got a match with Legacy at WrestleMania.  Orton responds, “I take Triple H seriously.  I respect Triple H.  Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBibase I don’t take seriously… at WrestleMania, they’ll find out that without me, they are both absolutely nothing!”

WrestleMania Rewind Match – WM 25th Anniversary
Triple H vs. Randy Orton
WINNER: No Contest after Legacy came out and beat up both competitors

  • While Legacy focuses more on Orton, Sheamus comes out and Pump Kicks Triple H in the middle of the ring.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The next WWE Hall of Fame Inductee is Gorgeous George.

Batista vs. Kofi Kingston
WINNER: Batista via pin fall after hitting a Batista Bomb

  • Near matches end, Batista was busted open by a kick from Kofi.  Went straight to the finish, match was not stopped for the blood.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Guest host for RAW next week, “Charlie Hustle” Pete Rose!

Bret Hart and Vince McMahon come to the ring for their contract signing.  Bret is still with his crutch, but now has a walking cast to shield his broken leg.  Stone Cold comes out to preside over the ordeal.

  • Austin takes the mic, “Last year Stone Cold went into the Hall of Fame, it’s something I’m proud of… this year Stu Hart was supposed to go into the Hall, but because you have the say so (Vince), you say he’s not going to the Hall of Fame… Well I’m here to announce he IS going into the Hall of Fame… Do you have a problem with that (Vince)?
  • Vince replies, “No I don’t… If the Hart Family is going to be in the Hall of Fame, we know they’re dysfunctional… Now to business, Bret, you can not sign this contract and be a coward or you can sign and take your beating like a man!  If you sign and don’t show up, I will sue you for all that you have!”
  • Bret laughs, “Even if I had two broken legs, I can and I will beat you!  This isn’t going to be a wrestling match, it’s going to be a fight.  This is going to be a massacre!  How about we make this a No Holds Barred match?”
  • Vince says, “In the words of Stone Cold, Hell Yeah!  Once again Bret has screwed Bret… Now sign it!”
  • Bret signs the contract.  Vince thinks about it for a second and then signs it.  Austin checks to make it official.
  • Austin turns to Vince, “I’m looking forward to you taking the biggest ass whooping of your life!”  Austin heads up the ramp.  He turns around, “Vince, there’s one thing I forgot to tell you… ah, nevermind, I’ll let Bret tell you himself.
  • McMahon turns back towards Bret and his cast is on the table and he throws away the crutch.
  • Bret tells him, “I knew I needed you to think I was hurt.  Thank God John Cena knew some people in the stunt business to pull that off.  I’m 100% and if YOU try to find some way to back out of this match, I’m going to sue you for everything your worth… Vince screwed Vince!”
  • Bret attacks Vince with the cast and walks away!

QUICK THOUGHTS:

It’s such a great sight to see Stone Cold again.  That guy changed the face of wrestling and gave it the “attitude” that it needed, and frankly that attitude has disappeared.  From the response of the fans in attendance, it’s something that maybe WWE should explore again because the WWE Universe seemed to eat it up!

All of the matches to me were very lackluster tonight.  They were mainly used as a way to build up to WrestleMania, but had slim to no action, and some really bad finishes in my opinion.  I wish they used the in ring action more to hype things up.  WrestleMania is less than two weeks away and I really couldn’t care less about most of the matches on the card.

The only really successful build up tonight was for the Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon match.  The contract signing, along with Austin running the proceedings was just great!  I knew that Bret wasn’t really injured and that this would happen, but it was still done in such a way that made it absolutely exciting to watch!  I, like Austin, am looking forward to Vince McMahon taking the beating of his life at WrestleMania!

TNA Impact! – 3/15/10

Posted by: oldskoolwarrior

After all the drama that went down last week on TNA Impact, what would the fallout be leading into the Destination X PPV?  Find out what went down last night on Spike TV:

Backstage: Hulk Hogan, Abyss, Jeff Hardy & Rob Van Dam arrive at the Impact Zone in a Hummer.

Ric Flair & AJ Styles come to the ring.  Styles takes the mic, “Abyss, you scary looking, but stupid monster, do you think some magical ring is going to help you?  We’ve had some classic battles, but the results are always the same… AJ Styles up.  Abyss down!”

  • Flair chimes in, “Last Monday night, you see this (scar on his head), a guard rail did this, NOT Hulk Hogan.”  He scratches at it so it bleeds!  “Abyss, you’re a dead man… I hate you Jeff Hardy!”
  • Jeff Hardy comes to the ring, but AJ cuts him off, “You are a nobody!  You want the spotlight?  How about Hardy versus Styles tonight?!?”
  • Hardy claims, “It’ll be a breeze!”
  • Flair makes a comment about Hardy being an artist getting high of sniffing paint.
  • Hardy takes the comment and twists it, “I’m going to be flying high… on the backs of my creatures of the night!!!  YEAAAHHH!!!”

Backstage: Mick Foley in the office with Eric Bischoff trying to explain about last week.  Bischoff has nothing of it.  Tells Foley, “I want to talk about right now… We’re going to clean you up, shave that head, shave that bear and turn you into the corporate executive I need!”

Video Package: Earlier in the day, The Nasty Boys attacked Jesse Neal in catering to send a message to Team 3D.

Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags) & Jimmy Hart vs. Team 3D (Brother Ray, Brother Devon & Brother Runt returns!)
WINNERS: Nasty Boys & Jimmy Hart via pin fall after Knobs hit Brother Ray with Hart’s crash helmet

  • After match, Nasty Boys set up a table in the ring with bad intentions.  Jesse Neal comes out and saves the day for his friends and they hit a 3D on Sags through the table.

Backstage: Christy Hemme is with Angelina Love.  She responds to The Beautiful People winning the Knockout Tag Titles.  She then challenges any one of them to a singles match.

Backstage: Jeremy Borash is with Scott Hall & Sean Waltman.  They’re confident that they’re going to get the job done at Destination X and earn their TNA contracts.

  • Interrupted by Kevin Nash & Eric Young.  Nash has a $25k Challenge for Hall if he can last five minutes in the ring with him.  Hall loves the idea!

Mr. Anderson & Desmond Wolfe with Chelsea vs. Kurt Angle & “Pope” D’Angelo Dinero
WINNERS: Pope & Angle via pin fall after Pope caught a small package on Wolfe.

  • After match, Pope and Wolfe brawl up the ramp, while Anderson hits a Mic Check on Angle in the ring.  He then grabs Angle’s Warrior Medal and slices him open again with it.  He then beats Angle with the microphone.

Backstage: In the office, Hulk Hogan is talking to Jeff Hardy and RVD.  “Take care of AJ (to Hardy), don’t even worry  about Flair, I’ve got Abyss as a special enforcer.  RVD, you know what to do brother!”

  • They leave.  Eric Bischoff enters, “I love surprises, but could you at least told me about them (RVD & Hardy)?”
  • Hogan replies, “I knew this would be the right thing to do and you’ve been busy with Foley.”

Challenge Match
Angelina Love vs. Daffney (Velvet Sky makes her an honorary member of The Beautiful People for one night only)
WINNER: Love via DQ after The Beautiful People interfered

  • After the match, there was a beat down of Angelina Love.  Tara comes down to the ring for the save!

Video Package: Look at what Sting did last week on Impact that was so out of character for him!

Hulk Hogan comes to the ring, “What went down last week was more than just a train wreck… The one image I can’t get out of my mind is Abyss going ‘why Sting, why?’”  Hogan then calls out Sting.

  • Sting spotted in the rafters, slowly makes his way to the ring.  When he finally gets to the ramp, he’s jumped from behind by Rob Van Dam.  RVD beats Sting all around the ring and slides him in for Hogan to pick bones, but Eric Bischoff comes running out to stop him.
  • Bischoff pleads with Hogan, “You didn’t come here to wrestle.  You made a promise to your daughter that last week was it… be done with it!”  Bischoff has security escort Sting out of the ring side area.

Backstage:  Hernandez approaches Jeff Jarrett in the back, “Last week what happened with Beer Money Inc., that was B.S.  You gave me my first shot, so if you’re looking for payback, let’s get it done!”

  • Eric Bischoff hears this as he walks back from the ring and stops them in their tracks.  He instead makes a Handicap Match for Hernandez against Beer Money with Jeff Jarrett as the guest referee.

5 Minute – $25k Challenge Match
Scott Hall vs. Kevin Nash
WINNER: Scott Hall via time limit

  • Sean Waltman came in and chop blocked Nash from behind mid match and the referee couldn’t really DQ him because it was about time limit.
  • Eric Young tried to help, but the numbers game got the best of him.

Backstage: Jeremy Borash with Beer Money who’s still pissed off they’ve been left off cards.  They’re still looking for any opportunity they can get to “make some cash and get trashed!”

Handicap Match
Hernandez vs. Beer Money Inc. (Robert Roode & James Storm) – Special Referee, Jeff Jarrett
WINNER(S): Beer Money via pin fall after hitting the DWI

  • During match, Matt Morgan comes to the announce table and says, “This is what Hernandez gets for sticking his nose in other people’s business!”
  • After match, Beer Money beats down Hernandez and knocks Jarrett over.  He takes exception and fights back.  Jarrett and Hernandez end up standing tall.

Bischoff in the ring with a barber’s chair, mirror and clippers.  He calls out Mick Foley for his trim.

  • Mick Foley sits in the chair and as Bischoff goes to cut his hair, Foley locks on the Mandible Claw!  Foley then picks up the clippers and shaves part of Bischoff’s head and wakes him up to survey the damage.  Bischoff is pissed!!!

Backstage: Christy Hemme is with Shannon Moore who’s not worried about his X-Division Title Match Sunday against Doug Williams.

Motor City Machine Guns come to the ring, “Destination X is going to be a night to remember!  It’s going to be the rise of the Machine Guns!  Generation Me, who do you think you are?  What dues have you paid to earn this #1 Contenders match against us?  Who have you beaten?”

  • Gen Me comes to the ring, “Who have we beaten..?  Well, in our debut match, we beat you guys!”
  • MMG responds, “There’s a thing called luck… you’re good, but we are great!”
  • Melee breaks out when the Guns take a crack at Gen Me’s girlfriends.
  • In the brawl, other X-Division stars come running out to get in on the fray (Brian Kendrick, Amazing Red, Daniels, Kazarian [who brought a ladder]).
  • Amazing Red has a crazy spot, jumping off the top of a ladder in the ring to the floor on to four guys.

Backstage: Jeremy Borash is with Abyss, “Destination X marks the spot where I get my hands on AJ Styles… It’s time for this monster to start taking what I want!”

AJ Styles with Ric Flair vs. Jeff Hardy – Special Enforcer, Abyss
WINNER: Jeff Hardy via pin fall after hitting the Swanton Bomb

  • After match, Flair hits Hardy with a chair and then cracks Abyss with it.  Flair chases Abyss up the ramp with it, and Abyss fights back.  He knocks the chair from Flairs grasp and then choke slams him through the entrance ramp.
  • AJ Styles looks on clutching his title with fear in his eyes.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

I’m so sick of seeing the Nasty Boys and Scott Hall.  Please TNA get rid of them!  They’re a waste of space!

Another great post match segment between Angle and Anderson!  Again, Kurt’s cut open by his own medal.  Brilliant!  This is going to keep on boiling all the way to Lockdown in April.

The X-Divison segment was good.  I’m glad they gave those guys some more air time to get things all situated for this Sunday.  The spto that Red did was just nuts.  The X-Division matches this weekend will be total spotfest, but that’s what I love about the X-Division!  Go big or go home!

Styles and Hardy was a great match.  What happened after the match was just as great.  I cannot believe that Flair took that bump through the entrance ramp!  WOW!  That caught me off guard!  Great way to lead us into a PPV.

Destination X is this Sunday on PPV at 5pm Pacific time.  I will have my preview and predictions up before the broadcast goes live!  It’s looking like it’s going to be a good one!

Ring of Honor – 3/15/10

Posted by: oldskoolwarrior

This week on Ring of Honor on HDNet, the Television Title Tournament continues with two more first round match ups.  Who will advance and who will kiss their chances goodbye with a loss?  Find out right here, right now:

Video Package: Last week, Jim Cornette announces a Triple Threat match for the ROH World Title at The Big Bang between Champion, Tyler Black and challengers, Austin Aries & Roderick Strong.

ROH TV Title Tournament Match – 1st Round
Eddie Edwards with Shane Hagadorn vs. Colt Cabana
WINNER: Edwards via submission due to a Single Leg Boston Crab

  • Steve Corino came down to the ring for a better look at Cabana’s match, and in the process distracted him enough to allow Edwards the victory.

Video Package: Drama between the Briscoe Bros. and the Kings of Wrestling (Claudio Castagnoli & Chris Hero)

Backstage: Kyle Durden is with the Briscoes and they’re hyped up to whoop the Kings of Wrestling again at The Big Bang!

Video Package: Roderick Strong talking about his frustrations with Tyler Black and Austin Aries, and how he’s going to beat them both to become the World Champion.

Jim Cornette is in the ring and he introduces to the crowd the newest signing to ROH, Shawn Daivari.

  • Davari takes the mic, “I am NOT a sheik.  I am NOT a terrorist.  I AM A PROFESSIONAL WRESTLER… For the last ten years I’ve wrestled full time… I will die a martyr for pro wrestling because I am the best!  I’m more American than anyone here or watching at home!”

Video Package: Austin Aries talking about his opponents at The Big Bang where he hopes to regain his ROH World Title.

Kyle O’Reilly vs. Tony Cozina
WINNER: O’Reilly via pin fall after countering a small package

Video Package: Tyler Black talks about defending his ROH World Title at Big Bang against two opponents.

ROH TV Title Tournament – 1st Round
Davey Richards with Shane Hagadorn vs. Delirious with Daizee Haze
WINNER: Richards via submission due to a Cross Arm Breaker

QUICK THOUGHTS:

Well, well, well… Both of the American Wolves, Edwards & Richards, advance in the TV Title Tournament.  Wouldn’t that be something if they both made it to the finals where they would face off..?

It’s nice to see Davari back on TV.  When given a chance, that guy is an outstanding competitor, but he’s always typecast as the same Middle Eastern gimmick that’s been going around since the 1970s.  Can we come up with something new?  The guy has been an American now for how many years living in Minnesota..?

I was pleasantly surprised by O’Reilly and Cozina’s match.  Both men did some moves in their short eight minute match that were pretty awesome, and they held my attention the whole time.  Kudos to them!

Wrestling Video Vault – 3/14/10

So there are some times where I’m at a loss for what to post, and there are some days when I just want to be a lazy SOB and don’t really want to hassle writing a full article for the site.  It’s tough when you’re the only guy posting, but this site is very much a labor of love for me.  Today, I was watching the The Rise and Fall of WCW DVD and thought to myself, “I should post some old matches or segments on DailyDDT,” and that’s exactly what I’m going to do today and occasionally when I feel like it.

Today, I think I’ll stick with the WCW theme and let you enjoy a moment from the rivalry between Goldberg and “The Hitman” Bret Hart. Do you remember this one?

I also now have a new Facebook Fan Page for DailyDDT.com, so if you’re on Facebook you can add DailyDDT on there.  You’ll be able to see all of the site updates and it’ll link you right to the site!

Smackdown! – 3/12/10

Posted by: oldskoolwarrior

Almost all of the WrestleMania card is set, but we still have some business to deal with leading into the last few turns on the road to sports-entertainment’s biggest night.  Here’s what went down last night on Smackdown:

Rey Mysterio comes to the ring and he’s got a surprise… he introduces his family to the crowd.  Rey announces that it’s his daughter’s birthday and has the crowd sing for her…

  • Interrupted by the Straightedge SocietyCM Punk takes the mic, “I’m not out here to hurt you or your family… I want to challenge you to a match at WrestleMania and for tonight, right now!”  He then tells Rey’s family some intense things about what he’s going to do to Rey.  He calls Rey a coward to bait him into a fight and even drops to his knees, “to Rey’s level.”  Punk then slaps Rey across the face.
  • Rey decides to escort his family out of the ring to the backstage area.
  • Punk then sings a creepy version of Happy Birthday for Rey’s daughter.

The Miz with Daniel Bryan vs. R-Truth with David Otunga
WINNER: R-Truth via pin fall after hitting the Lie Detector

  • Mid match, Miz went for a pin fall with his feet on the ropes and Daniel Bryan pushed them off.  Miz was pissed and distracted causing Truth to gain an advantage.

Video Package: Superstars talk about The Undertaker’s streak and how Shawn Michaels could be the one to break it.

Backstage: Drew McIntyre is walking down the hall when approached by Teddy Long.  Teddy talks some smack about Drew’s two losses that he whined to Vince McMahon about to have removed from his record.

  • Drew looks at him and says, “I’m still proud to be undefeated and I’m going to qualify for WrestleMania tonight!”
  • Teddy says, “Vince hand picked your opponent for tonight, so I can’t change it, but I can make it a Winner Take All match, meaning both the Money in the Bank Qualifying spot and the Intercontinental Title is on the line.”

WINNER TAKE ALL – Money in the Bank Qualifier/Intercontinental Title Match
Drew McIntyre (Champion) vs. Aaron Bolo
WINNER: McIntyre via pin fall after hitting the Future Shock DDT

Big Show vs. John Morrison
WINNER: Big Show via pin fall after hitting the KO Punch as a counter to Morrison’s flying chuck kick

Backstage: Teddy is talking to former ECW GM Tiffany when they’re interrupted by Vickie Guerrero who is a little offended that Tiffany is there.  Vickie even blames Tiffany for why ECW was replaced by NXT.  Teddy tells Vickie not to worry she’s here to compete as a Diva and not for your job.

  • Vickie gets a good laugh out of that and decides that in Tiffany’s first match on Smackdown that she’ll be taking on Michelle McCool.

Hart Dynasty (DH Smith & Tyson Kidd with Natalya) vs. Cryme Tyme (Shad Gaspard & JTG)
WINNER: No Contest

  • Mid match, lights go out (GONG!!!!), lights on.  The Undertaker is in the middle of the ring and destroys everyone in the match hitting every devastating move he has: Chokeslam, Last Ride, Tombstone, and Hells Gate

Michelle McCool with Layla & Vickie Guerrero vs. Tiffany
WINNER: Tiffany via DQ after Vickie Guerrero tackled her on the outside of the ring

  • After the match, it looked like it was going to be a three on one beat down until Beth Phoenix came in and cleared house, including clotheslining Vickie.

Luke Gallows with Straightedge Society vs. Kane
WINNER: Kane via DQ after CM Punk got involved in the match up

  • After match, CM Punk hit Kane with the GTS.  Then Rey Mysterio came down to the ring to get his hands on Punk.  They brawled along the ringside area until referees stopped Rey and Punk ran.

Chris Jericho comes to the ring for his segment called The Highlight Reel.  He’s followed to the ring by his guest, and opponent at WrestleMania, Edge.

  • Edge says to Jericho, “The name of this show is amusing to me because the only highlight that’s been happening around here is me hitting you with a certain move… (crowd chants, SPEAR! SPEAR! SPEAR!)”
  • Jericho tries to knock him down a peg, “You get to the cusp of greatness and then you get injured!  Do you know what I was doing while you were licking your wounds?  (Edge says “Losing!”) I was building a Hall of Fame career!”
  • Edge responds, “I know how to do this job one way, I take risks!  I face adversity without fear!  At WrestleMania I will take whatever risks I need to in order to win back my World Heavyweight Title!”
  • Jericho takes a cheap shot at Edge using Vickie Guerrero to get to the top!  Then says, “Bad things happen to you when I’m around!  I don’t think you’re ready to be back.  I think you’re still injured… At WrestleMania, I’m going to beat you and I’m going to hurt you!”
  • Edge now a little agitated, “I’m going to do something too at WrestleMania, I’m going to make you an ex-World Champion, and I’m going to do it with a spear…”
  • Y2J slaps Edge and then hits him with a stool that was in the ring for the segment.  Jericho tries to throw Edge through the JeriTron, but Edge counters into the Edgecution.  Edge sets up for the Spear, but Jericho counters by hitting him in the face with the World Title knocking him senseless!
  • Jericho takes the mic, “spear, spear, spear, spear, spear…”

QUICK THOUGHTS:

Smackdown is taped… How can they let this get by them?

It’s funny because just before I turned on Smackdown last night, I thought to myself, “When are they going to go into the Rey Mysterio and CM Punk story line?”  Well, I got my answer last night.  Of course they’re going to have a match at WrestleMania!  My hope when it comes down to the match is that they put one stipulation on it… Hair vs. Mask!  I think a TON of people would love to see CM Punk with no hair!  I agree with what people say, he does look like a homeless man and needs at least a shave!  Oh, and if you missed it, I caught a blooper in the opening sequence between Punk and Mysterio.  Look at the microphone flag, it’s upside down…  WOW!

Got to love the fact that The Miz and Daniel Bryan’s dysfunctional relationship has now made its way to Smackdown.  If Bryan doesn’t win NXT he’s still going to be on the main roster, everyone knows that already.  I can see Bryan beating Miz for the US Title his first official night on the roster!

Tiffany's In-Ring Debut on Smackdown!

Didn’t expect The Undertaker to come in and just destroy the tag team match like that.  I know it gets Taker over as wanting to send a message to Shawn Michaels, but it also just shows what WWE thinks of their tag team division.  It’s just sad that Bret Hart is with WWE again and WWE couldn’t even give the Hart Dynasty a push.

Oh my God!  I’ve always thought Tiffany was hot, but seeing her come down to the ring in her gear, as Ron Simmons would say, “DAMN!”  That girl is FINE!  They really didn’t let the women wrestle at all, but she seemed like she was pretty feisty slamming McCool into the ring apron and the barricade before the outside interference occurred.  I know that Tiffany had been training in FCW for awhile, hence why on ECW she was in a cast for a few months, but other than her getting into a cat fight once, I had never seen her in the ring.  I’m looking forward to seeing more of her!

The Cutting Edge segment pretty much went the way that I thought.  It looked as if Edge was going to have Chris Jericho’s number again, and then Y2J would end up standing tall.  YAWN!  I hope the match will be a lot better than all the “hype” they’re trying to build it up with.

WWE Superstars – 3/11/10

Posted by: oldskoolwarrior

Here goes last night’s results from WWE Superstars on WGN America:

Dolph Ziggler vs. Shelton Benjamin
WINNER: Dolph Ziggler via referee stoppage due to the Sleeper Hold

Mike Knox vs Goldust
WINNER: Goldust via pin fall after hitting the Final Cut

Santino Marella vs. Zack Ryder with Rosa Mendes
WINNER: Ryder via pin fall after hitting the Zack Attack

MVP & Christian with Heath Slater vs. Chavo Guerrero & Carlito with Michael Tarver
WINNERS: MVP & Christian via pin fall after Christian hit the Kill Switch on Chavo

QUICK THOUGHTS:

Look at that, four matches in one hour!  See WWE, when you don’t have to pimp out ridiculous story lines and guest hosts you can get four matches on a program, and they were good matches at that!  This is really why I like the Superstars show.  It may not always be the “top guys,” but you’re going to see the solid workers in action.  All of these guys are Intercontinental Title material, hell most of them have been in the past!  The IC Title was always for the guys who knew how to work, and unfortunately for most, that’s about as high as these guys will ever get!

One news worthy not (not really), Santino finally landed The Cobra on someone!  If you haven’t seen him wind it up, check out the video, it’s pretty funny/ridiculous.  NOTE: The video of him hitting The Cobra has not made it online as of yet.  This is a Santino FAIL video!

Meet Your X-Division Champion

Posted by: oldskoolwarrior
Doug Williams - TNA X-Division Champion

Doug Williams - TNA X-Division Champion (Courtesy of TNA Wrestling & Online World of Wrestling)

Since there was no wrestling programming on last night, I figured I would try to help my viewers get to know certain wrestlers that may not have been on TV for very long or may not get the proper rub when it comes to the weekly programming.  So today I bring to you the current TNA X-Division Champion, Doug Williams.

Doug Williams first appeared in TNA during the 2008 World X Cup, but never really became a consistent member of the TNA roster till appearing with The British Invasion in 2009.  Since then, Doug Williams has mainly been a tag team specialist and a champion alongside his partner Brutus Magnus.  Recently though, Doug has come into his own as a singles wrestler becoming the X-Division champion and competing against TNA staples the likes of Kazarian, Daniels, and Amazing Red.  The key question is, who really is Doug Williams the wrestler?

The British born wrestler has been a world traveler making stops all across Europe in promotions like Frontier Wrestling Alliance & One Pro Wrestling (England), Westside Xtreme Wrestling (Germany), and the International Catch Wrestling Alliance (France).  He’s also been a member of Japan’s esteemed promotion, Pro Wrestling NOAH.  When he came across the pond to wrestle in the United States, Williams has not just been a TNA guy.  He has also chalked up some valuable time in Ring of Honor and in his debut defeated “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson.  He’s also competed against some of ROH’s biggest names from over the years like CM Punk, Nigel McGuinness, Go Shiozaki & Low Ki.

The questions I’m pondering right now are where does Doug Williams go from here and does TNA see him as an asset for the future of the X-Division?  Personally, I think he’s got a great style.  It’s a mix of a traditional wrestling/grappling and Japanese strong style.  He’s got a ton of talent and can hold his own against anyone on the TNA roster.  The new finisher he’s doing now that he’s a singles wrestler is awesome!  It’s called the Chaos Theory.  Check the video:

Will TNA continue to push him as the X-Division Champion?  Maybe, but considering that there are guys on the roster the likes of Kazarian, Daniels, Amazing Red, and more gunning for his title that can make the crowd go nuts with their high spots, I hate to say that it’s highly unlikely.  Williams is a very consistent performer, but he isn’t the most flashy guy in the world.  That Chaos Theory maneuver, at least for me, takes him to another level.  For some reason, I cannot help but compare the brutality of that move, which is essentially a rolling German Suplex with a bridge, to that of Petey Williams and the Canadian Destroyer.  It may not be as flashy, but it just looks like it’s such a devastating move.  Right now, he’s got some heat for being the champion and narrowly escaping with the title a few times, but I cannot help but think that Williams might lose his title soon. The one thing I hope and pray that happens though, is that TNA continues to utilize him as an X-Division staple.  I would hate to see his talent go by the wayside like some of the other X-Division stars of late.  If that happens, it would be an absolute injustice!

So what did we learn today?  Doug Williams is a hell of an athlete who’s wrestled all over the world against some of the independent scene’s biggest names!  He’s been a great asset to TNA’s tag team divison, and I personally believe that he could be just as big of an asset in the X-Division if TNA doesn’t push him out the door too soon!  One thing is for certain, if you get in this Brit’s way, he’s going to break you in half!

WWE NXT – 3/9/10

Posted by: oldskoolwarrior

It’s the third week of the new show, and rivalries are already being formed.  However, most of them are not just within the NXT Rookies.  We’re starting to see a lot of fighting between NXT Rookies and the WWE Pros.  What happened last night? Find out here:

Backstage: Matt Striker gave us a rundown on the format of the show (I’m guessing he’ll be doing this every week).

Daniel Bryan & The Miz vs. R-Truth & David Otunga
WINNERS: Truth & Otunga via pin fall after Otunga hit a Spine Buster on The Miz

  • Before match, The Miz warned Daniel Bryan, “You’ve proved nothing so far… if you are pinned in this match I personally make sure you never achieve your goal of becoming a WWE Superstar and I will throw you off NXT.”
  • After match, The Miz keeps jawing at Daniel Bryan for them losing.

Video Package: Earlier today, Heath Slater talks about how he felt when Carlito spit the apple in his face last week.

Backstage: Matt Striker grabs The Miz after the match and asks if he let Daniel Bryan down tonight…

  • Miz responds by gloating about his accolades and titles.  Bryan stops him and says, “Every single tag team partner you had, carried you!  If you’re so talented, how come you’re the one who lost tonight?!?”

Video Package: A look at Justin Gabriel.

Backstage: Matt Hardy talking to Justin Gabriel, “For the second week you’re in the main event… Last week you were great!  You beat William Regal with a gorgeous 450 Splash.”

  • Gabriel asks for some advice going into his match tonight against Wade Barrett.
  • Chris Jericho & Wade Barrett enter.  Jericho thinks Gabriel didn’t do enough last week to prove that he can take Barrett.
  • Barrett tells Gabriel, “I destroyed Daniel Bryan in three minutes.  What do you think is going to happen to you?”

Heath Slater with Christian vs. Carlito with Michael Tarver
WINNER: Heath Slater via pin fall reversal

  • Before match, Carlito had words for Slater saying “You should be begging me to spit in your face again!”  Carlito tried, but missed.

Video Package: A look at Darren Young.

Backstage: CM Punk is talking to his fellow Straightedge Society members about Darren Young, and he’s standing behind them.

  • Young says to Punk, “I respect your straightedge lifestyle, but why can’t I live my life the way I want to live it?”
  • Punk looks a little upset, “Ultimately the choice is yours, but straightedge can make anyone a winner, or you can do it your way and see where that takes you.”

Justin Gabriel with Matt Hardy vs. Wade Barrett with Chris Jericho
WINNER: Justin Gabriel via pin fall after hitting the 450 Splash

  • After match, Jericho attacked Hardy from behind, throwing him out of the ring, leaving an opportunity for him to assault Justin Gabriel.  Jericho hit the Codebreaker and slapped on the Walls of Jericho.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

Sign of the night – “NXT = Botchamania”  I love it!

I also want to bring up to the fans that were in the arena watching the main event, if both guys are from outside the United States, chanting USA does nothing to boost either of them!  It just makes you look like idiots!

I saw The Miz getting pinned the second he opened his mouth for the pep talk.  WWE’s going to ride this rivalry into the ground with Miz and Daniel Bryan, which isn’t a bad thing.  Miz is entertaining and Bryan is well a bad ass in the ring.  At least we know when it gets to that point where they have to wrestle, someone will be able to carry the weight.

I’m glad they addressed the issue with the Straightedge Society and Darren Young, somewhat.  The Punk character is very pushy with his lifestyle choice, and I was a nice change to hear him say, “Ultimately it’s your choice!”  I have a feeling by season’s end we’re either going to see a bald Darren Young or a big blowout between Punk and Young!

Well, I think it’s safe to say that Justin Gabriel is right up there with Daniel Bryan as the front runners for the WWE contract.  Gabriel has now gone over in two main event matches with a 450 Splash.  The guy has great potential and much like Evan Bourne he’s quick, exciting to watch, and can fly!  That’s what the WWE Universe likes to see!
